ICBA: Play College Basketball By E-Mail From: godot22@earthlink.net (PJ Killian) Date: Sun, 19 Jul 1998 00:00:00 +0000 ICBA (Internet Collegiate Basketball League) is a free college basketball game played via e-mail. Players take on the role of the head of a college basketball program. Your school can be large or small, scrupulous about the rules or a cesspool of corruption, a bastion of academe or a diploma mill. If you like, you can represent your favorite real-life university, or you can make up your own--we have a little of both already, so the Georgia Bulldogs and the Long Beach State 49ers rub shoulders with the Boggstown Fighting Shar-Peis and the Miskatonic Cephalopods. First, you try and recruit a new batch of freshmen to replenish your team--a tricky business, especially if they expect to be paid top dollar <g>. Then you send your starting five into games coached by other real Internet users. If everything goes according to schedule, we play a new season about every six weeks. ICBA is a totally free game. I run it as a hobby, and I originally designed the program I use to produce the results as a learning activity. The game is a little rough around the edges--OK, a LOT rough around the edges--but it's improving as quickly as my programming skills, and your suggestions can only make it better. If it thrives and survives...well, years from now, you can say you were a part of the inaugural season. We are looking for up to thirteen dedicated people with a love (or at least a strong like) for college basketball to help us make this happen. If you're interested, please point your web browser to http://home.earthlink.net/~godot22/ICBA/ for the complete instructions and the signup form. Up
